Our Director, Steve Morin, first attended a regular
Salem chapter meeting with his father, Bob in 1978.
At the young age of fifteen he joined the Society
and has gone "full speed ahead" ever since.
Steve's
first job out in front came as Assistant Director
of the Salem Chorus from 1984 to 1987 when he moved
to Portland. He started his Director position with
the West Portland Chapter and began to concentrate
on developing his skills as a top-notch director.
He directed the West Portland Vocal Gentry to two
2nd place finishes in the Evergreen District Chorus
Competition.
In
1989 Steve moved back to the Salem area and was given
the Directorship of the Salem Chorus. Since that time
he has led the Salem Chorus to eight 1st place finishes
in the District competition, and the chorus is currently
ranked 16th in the world. Under his outstanding leadership
we will again, be going to the International Competition
in Salt Lake City, Utah in July, 2005.
Besides
directing, Steve is also a very talented and accomplished
singer. He is a member of Q.C.E.D., the Quartet Champions
of the Evergreen District. Steve qualified for membership
to this club by winning the Evergreen District contest
in 1988 with Four Cryin' Out Loud. He has also been
a member of one of the District's youngest and most
exciting quartets, DICE, 1997 Evergreen District Division
4 Champions and a 2nd place finish at District in
1997. Other quartets he has been a member of in the
past are, Ring Masters (age 19), Capitol City Sound,
Members Only, Harmony Heights and Done Deal. Steve currently sings Bass in the top 20 International quartet Sold Out.
We
are so fortunate to have Steve. His hard work, dedication
and desire to be the best we can be leads us to bigger
and better things every year.
